Desert Island Products - Make Up

So its time for the final instalment in my Desert Island Products series - and we've finally come to it - make up!

This is my make up bag -and yes its a tip! I always thought I had far too much make up but after seeing other people's on Youtube, I've realised this is nothing! I do have another smaller bag and some palettes but this is really the majority of it - I do need to consider some better storage though.

So first and foremost are my brushes. I'm very much an "apply with a brush kind" of person, and my brush of choice is generally Body Shop. I have a couple of Benefit ones as Body Shop don't do a fan brush, and I really like their eyebrow brush, but Body Shop's Foundation Brush is second to none.They wash really well with very little hair loss and splaying and I've some of these for years now!

This is my other make up bag with my more day to day make up in.

Foundations

I have four different foundations for different things and reasons. First is Skin Illusion Natural Radiance Foundation. This was purchased to go with my skincare routine, as it doesn't cling to any dry patches that I may have.

I also have Clarins HydraQuench Tinted Moisturiser again this compliments my skincare routine but its in a slightly darker shade and is more of a summer foundation that the other, as it gives less coverage.

I use Benefit some kind a gorgeous as a finisher, rather than just on it's own. It smooths out any brush lines and finishes as a powder.

This is a Virgin Vie Bare Minerals Foundation* and their Kabuki brush which I love!! I use this fairly daily when my skin is good and clear, as it doesn't give great coverage again.

Primers

I tend to stick to two main face primers, Benefit's That Gal for general day wear and Girl Meets Pearl for night time. I've only just got beauty flash balm in a Clarin's gift set so haven't fully used this yet.
Bronzer/Blush

My two regular Benefit blush and bronzer, Hoola looks really dark in the box but gives a lovely glow, and Sugarbomb finishes off the look with peachey pink highlights on your cheek bones.
Concealer

I genuinely don't know how I lived without this stuff before I got it! I tried so many other concealers but nothing comes close to this for covering my eye bags! It is pricey but I've found that when applied with a brush it does last as a little goes a long way.
Eyes

I think every girl has at least one of these little sets in their collection. The Body Shop Shimmer Cubes are a really good palette, as each individual cube is removable and has its own lid so you could take different ones out and put them together for your perfect set. I have Warm, Blue/Grey and Pink.

I own only four Mac product's and this is one. I like Mac's technakhol liner for lining my top lids. Benefit Badgal is great for smokey eyes as its so thick. The Body Shop eye liner is more precise than the Benefit one, and has the benefit of an added smudging sponge on the end. All my liners are in black, but I'm looking into other colours to try.

I'm not a big mascara person.I have a few, but these are my current uses, The Body Shop Define and Lengthen Mascara, and Benefit Badgal Waterproof - due to the amount of rain we've had recently. I have really short stumpy eyelashes and no mascara has managed to do much more than make them just a a darker colour, despite claims to make them longer thicker etc.

I love my Laura Mercier palette. I picked this up in New York, and I think the colours are lovely and can be made into a dark eye or more natural so I always find this a good one for going on holiday.

Lips

L-R:- Vie in Nude Shimmy; Vie in Sparkling Rose;
Collection Lasting Colour in Bubblegum;
Benefit Swoonderful; Benefit Saucy

The Collection Lipstick is a recent addition to my collection. Its really bright and looks really striking for a night out.

Myface Fair in gigabite lipstick and Vie Lipgloss in creme brulee
The Vie lipgloss is quite thick and sticky so you don't need much of it. The Myface Lipstick is a really good basic day time lippy.

So for a Desert Island, that's probably a lot of products really, so if I had to narrow it down to the bare minimum this would probably be it:-

So that was the final post in this little series - what did you think of them all? Which was your favourite? Do you prefer series posts or stand alone posts?

* I have recently been informed that Vie have now gone into administration so these products are no longer available.

  3. in comparison to the rest of my powders Hoola is fairly new because I thought it was too dark but it's not as scary as it looks lol

    Thank you :) Its difficult to find the balance between too much detail and not enough - I'm glad you've enjoyed them :)

  4. I LOVE the shimmer bricks!! I have a random one, it has a nude, purple, blue and green. I think they're a bit pricey though (although I am a cheapskate and got mine in the sale!) as I don't use mine very often, and I don't really use all the colours x

    1. They can be pricey - I got one of mine from a carboot stall that was selling all brand new make up so I'm a cheapskate too lol
