The Harry Potter Tag

As I mentioned in this post, I recently went to the Harry Potter studios. I know every blogger and their dog seems to have been and posted their photos, so rather than just posting them and telling you about how amazing it is (it is!!) I thought I would intersperse my pictures through The Harry Potter Tag which I have seen doing the blogger rounds of late (I do like a good tag post).

1. What is your favourite book?
This is an easy one – got to be The Prisoner of Azkaban. I think it’s probably my favourite film too. I’m not entirely sure what it is that makes it my favourite but I do particularly like some of the early chapters when Harry lives at The Leaky Cauldron for a few weeks and the detailed descriptions of the shops and the people – Florian Fortesque always stuck in my mind. I would have loved to have seen more of this in the films. It may be a little mundane but it was the mundane, made magical.

2. What is your favourite film?
Whoops! I sort of already answered this above! I love Garry Oldman’s portrayal of Sirius Black in this film, and Garry Thewlis’s Remus Lupin. They were both so ‘fatherly’ to Harry, I really enjoyed watching it.

3. What is your least favourite book?
Hmmm that’s a difficult one, I don’t think there’s any that I didn’t like. I suppose if any, The Half Blood Prince doesn’t really stand out for me, I stuggle to separate out some of the storylines in this and The Order of The Pheonix.

4. What is your least favourite film?
It’s not that it’s my least favourite, but as the actors have gotten older and the films much better written, and produced, I do find the first film a little bit on the cringy-side now. “I’m, I’m a what!?” Makes my toes curl a little!
5. What parts of the books/films made you cry?
Every time I see Dobby die, even a picture of the scene with Harry holding him on the beach, I well up. I had tears streaming down my face in the cinema, and I didn’t care one bit. I cried at a lot more of the deaths when I read the books than on the film, although I got a little teary at ‘the close’ when all Harry’s relatives tell him they will be with him until the end.

6. If you could hook up with any character, who would it be?
In the early films, I always though Oliver Wood was pretty hot – I think the accent helped too! I also have a bit of a Rupert Grint/Ron Weasley thing (and yes I do refer to them interchangeably)

7. Who is your favourite character?
Probably Fred and George as they always had the funniest lines.

8. Who is your least favourite character?
Cho Chang. I don’t know why I just didn’t like her and I wasn’t over the moon about the whole her and Harry thing – she seemed far too wet for him in my opinion. The film version was even wetter.

9. What is your favourite line?
Anything said by Alan Rickman – his drawl is perfect. I love it when Professor McGonagall asks why when anything happens it’s always those three and Ron replies “Believe me Professor, I’ve been asking myself that same question for the past six years.”

I always get a shiver when I read or hear Kingsley Shacklebot say “The Ministry is fallen. They are coming” too. It such a simple line but the effect of those few words is fantastic.

10. What would your patronus be?
Probably a cat, or a Labrador, obviously.

11. If you could have the Resurrection Stone, Invisibility Cloak or Elder Wand, which would you choose?
Hmmm I think probably the cloak would be the most useful.

12. Which house would you be in?
I'd probably say Ravenclaw as I believe I’m pretty intelligent and witty! I haven’t been sorted on Pottermore yet (I really need to spend more time on it). I have a sinking feeling I’ll probably end up in Slytherin as I’m pretty resourceful and career driven (ambitious). Not all Slytherins are bad, right?

13. If you could meet any member of the cast, who would it be?
I’d love to meet Matthew Lewis, because, well let’s be honest, Neville got hot! I would really like to meet Maggie Smith, though, as she has had so many great roles in her career, and I just anticipate she would be a fantastic person to converse with.

14. If you were on the Quidditch team, which position would you play?
Hmm I’m not really into sports so much, but when I was at school and played netball, I was always Goal Keeper, so probably Keeper then.

15. Where you happy with the ending?
Yes, there was no way Harry, Ron and Hermoine could have been killed off. Sometimes I wish they hadn’t done the bit with their kids, and left it more open for another book, but I can see why JK Rowling decided not to do that. It played out really well on film too. For some reason it really annoyed me in the film that Harry just threw the Elder Wand over the bridge – I much preferred the book version where he repaired his own wand and returned it to Dumbledore – that seemed much more fitting.

16. How much does Harry Potter mean to you?
Harry Potter formed a massive part of my childhood. I’d always been a big fan of school stories and this was essentially a school story in the extreme. Everything was so fantastically described and it all brings so many memories for me – the first time I ever read one of the books, listening to Stephen Fry read the entire first book out on the radio one Boxing Day afternoon (and literally not leaving my room for the entire day so not to miss a single bit!) and eagerly awaiting the outcome of every book, and reading various forums for potential spoilers; the anticipation of what happened next was indescribable, and it’s something I’m so glad to have been a part of. Finally, it made reading ‘cool’. I’d always been ridiculed for being such an avid reader, and my school was definitely not the place you were seen to read, be different or even slightly intelligent, whereas Harry Potter made it cool to read. For that, I owe JK Rowling, a lot!

Have you done The Harry Potter Tag? I'd love to see your posts.

  2. I worked in a bookshop when the first Harry Potter books came out (yep that does date me a bit!!) but I bought them all and have read and re-read them so many times. I usually 'do' them once a year to keep the magic alive!

  4. Neville definitely did get hot! I have to say I think my favourite book was The Half Blood Prince but I suppose everyone has their preferences, my favourite movie was Chamber of Secrets, Gilderoy Lockhart make sme cry with laughter and Kenneth Brannagh plays him absolutely perfectly. Although I've visited the WWOHP 4 times in Orlando I actually haven't been to the studios tour yet but I'm definitely going to go sometime this year!
